The Importance of SEO for Small & Local Businesses

When talking about “On Page” SEO, we are referring to how your website is performing in comparison to your competitors on the internet. Formatting your website correctly will help build and maintain top rankings in search engines. To build a better “On Page” SEO, think of the following when looking at your website:

  1. How does the overall formatting of my website compare to my competition?

  2. Is it easy for consumers to follow and navigate throughout my site?

  3. What is my average load speed for my website?

  4. Is my web design responsive? Will my user be able to view my website on any device, including a smartphone?

  5. Am I using popular keywords in my industry on my website and in my content?

  6. How often am I posting written content to my website? Am I blogging enough to maintain a virtual presence to my followers?

  7. Are my URL names and links easy to comprehend? Do they link properly on my website and on search engines? Are they recognizable?

These questions will need to be taken into consideration to improve your overall “On Page” SEO.

Moving onto “Off Page” SEO, we will discuss ways to build your brand through other mediums besides your website. Consider the following:

  1. Making a social media presence. Besides your website, are there other ways for your clients to view or search for your business? Consider making social media profiles, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to always be in front of your potential clients. The more your clients see you, the more they remember you. The easier you are to find, the more they are willing to do business.

  2. Advertising through news and media outlets, as well as in published articles, magazines, journals, etc. This is another medium to be present, or be in front of your potential consumers. Think of this type of brand awareness as a way for your clients to go searching for you after you have been featured on the local news.

  3. Making business profiles and completing business inquiries. Having your business registered on Yelp, Bing Local, Linkedin, and especially Google My Business, will increase your SEO rankings drastically. After you have made a website, always make sure to check in with the following business inquiry platforms to have your business be verified, registered, and ready to gain SEO traffic.

Managing SEO has been proven to be statistically cheaper when gaining leads. The only thing that SEO management costs is your own time. Now that you know about how SEO affects your business, take a look at where you can get started or where you can improve your daily SEO in the following steps:

  1. Getting your Social Media on schedule and under control. Make sure you are posting at least twice a day to your followers, and engage with your followers as well! Always reply back to messages and follow up in the comment section of your posts.

  2. Link Building and Researching Important Keywords. Build your links on your site so they not only work, but direct users to correct pages and quality content to boost SEO. Research top industry keywords to use in the coding of your site, your headers on your web pages, as well as in your content you post on your website.

  3. Promote and Gain Trust/Authority to boost local SEO. When you market and promote a quality website, the results will show. Gaining the trust and authority of major search engines, like Google, will help you build your ranks in the SEO world.

  4. Monitor your Progress and Aim for the Top. Don’t be shy when it comes to viewing results. This is the perfect opportunity to see if what you are doing is actually working for your business.
